Hey everyone!
I haven’t really done much work on my blog lately, but it’s something I am wanting to work on more this year, so I figured I would start by filling everyone in on some of the projects I’ve been working on.
To start, this time next week, I’ll be running my first 5K race in San Antonio!
Now, let me say a couple things about that. In college, I ran in our Homecoming 5K a couple times. And when I say ran I mean lightly jogged and was practically walking by the time I got to the finish line, while mumbling to my running partner and sorority sister Ally that we were so going to celebrate with Snickers bars and beer when we got done. That being said, I didn’t really spend any time training. Maybe a couple days on the treadmill the week before the race, but there was no actual goal for winning or finishing a certain way.
Flash forward to now. I have been looking forward to next week since I started this running training plan in January. Being able to have an goal, and follow a set schedule for how I was going to get to it has made all the difference in my life over these past few weeks. I have consistently ran 3 days a week paired with time in the gym, while I’ve lost a little weight, what it’s don’t for my mental well being has been even more impactful.
This past Monday, it was a beautiful 72 degrees during sunset on the beach so I surpassed my run distance for that day and pushed it to the full 3.1 miles.
I won’t lie, I cried a little when I started my cooldown walk. Three miles might not seem like much to some people, but after spending so much of the last year being sedentary both physically and mentally, finishing this run is much more symbolic.
I can go the distance. Any distance, or goal that I set for myself. Not only can I hit that goal, but I can surpass it. Not just in this run, but in all my fitness goals, in my financial goals, and in my career and life goals. Life has so many opportunities for us. And we have the ability to make the most of them.
